Washington, D.C., April 8,
2008 — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) today released
Architecture: Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future,
a collection of essays, vignettes and profiles from 70 of most the
influential architects, journalists and scholars from around the
world. Offering a candid look at the professions past 150
years, the book also provides an in-depth analysis about the role
of the AIA architect in creating the vibrant, sustainable
communities of the future. It is being unveiled during National
Architecture Week 2008 (April 7-13) in Washington, D.C.
In addition to narrative from contributors such as renowned
architects Thom Mayne, FAIA, and Robert A.M. Stern, FAIA, scholar
James Steele and journalist Paul Goldberger, Hon. AIA, the book
contains 560 photographs that depict some of the greatest
architectural collaborations and contributions of our time.
This fascinating new book will help readers understand how
architecture influenced the creation of our cities, as well as how
architects will design the built environment of the future,
